Makerspace

 This term we are focussing on Makerspace, design thinking and construction skills.

We had a discussion about what we already knew about Makerspace.

We watched a video from Kid President (who we think is so funny and cool!) talking about solving problems - you don't have to be big, strong, rich or powerful to solve problems.  We can solve problems if we all work together.

After watching the video we had some problems that we could think of - problems at home, school and in the community.  

A problem that we see everyday is the birds that come up onto the deck to eat out of the compost bin and making a mess!

Part of the design thinking process is to imagine possibilities to solve problems.  We began a Crazy 8's thinking time - 8 ideas (as big, little, realistic or completely wacky) to solve this problem.

Some were simple - make a new lid for the bin, put the bin inside.  Some were more elaborate - create a forcefield to stop the birds, get an angry cat to scare them away.

We have now thought about a new problem that we are going to plan and make next week - 

Create a solution to the problem of lids not being recycled in Hamilton's new rubbish system.
